Who are the main characters? Do you like them? Why or why not? What is special about them? What do they reveal about the universal human experience?

The main characters of 1984 is Winston Smith, Julia, and O'Brien. Winston Smith is the protagonist of the story. To be honest, I don't really like any of the characters in the story. Although Winston stands up for what he believes, and tries to change what's going around in his world, at the end of the novel, even he changes his mind and even stands up for what he believed was wrong in the past. Julia, she doesn't take any significant actions to change what she thinks is wrong. In my opinion, she just wants to rebel against what everyone else is doing. O'Brien is a really unique character along with Winston in the novel. He is the head person of Ministry of Love, where people are tortured and brainwashed. O' Brien is in the charge of torturing and brainwashing people to follow the party. O' Brien notices that Winston is against the party, so he disguises himself as a rebelling force against the government, and Winston falls in for it. At the end of the novel, Winston gets captured and tortured by O'Brien. To me, O'Brien is a character who would do anything to stay in power. O'Brien has no emotions or feelings toward other people, and even though he lives a very corrupted life, he doesn't realize it, and just tries to make everyone fall under the rule of the party. Humans can be very selfish and unconsiderate, and history proves it to us. The world of 1984 reflects the totalitarian government like the Nazi and Stallin government in the past. I think the novel tells us how humans always try to dominate eachother with money and force, which is very dangerous if the dominant party abuses their power.
